We learn much about misguided faith and a skewed view of God from reading the story of Jephthah, who made a foolish vow to God and murdered his only daughter. Toxic faith leads to deal-making with God, an obsessive devotion to the religious life, to formulaic faith. Toxic faith ALWAYS hurts others, and destroys our intimacy with God.
