We can see people – but totally miss the person – their story. The woman bent over with scoliosis was ignored by the crowd. But Jesus called her a valued “daughter of Abraham” and healed her. We can become “inattentionally blinded” by tradition, pride, criticism. Hasn’t the evangelical church been guilty of “seeing” people this way at times? So, look for the people around you. God is already at work, already present – he’s looking for us to pay attention – to see and respond. Compassion doesn’t mean you’re a wimp! It means you fight for what matters most to God!
