Limited Information

“Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing. All that I commanded her let her observe” (Judges 13:13).

Remember the story of Samson and how the angel of the Lord (the Lord himself) appeared to Samson’s mother? After his second appearance, his father asked the Lord, “What is to be the child’s manner of life, and what is his mission?” (Judges 13:12). How did the Lord answer, with an account of what Samson would do? No. The angel of the Lord only repeated what he first said to Samson’s mother.

Have you ever felt called into ministry, or called to do something for the Lord? Yet, when that calling takes place it’s different than what you thought it would be? That’s what happened to me. When the Lord called me I imagined my life to look a certain way, but the Lord did something completely different than what I imagined.

Sometimes, like Samson’s family, God gives limited information. He only reveals a little bit and it’s up to us to obey that calling, because though God does not reveal the details, he will be working out those details in our lives as we grow in obedience. Samson didn’t follow the Lord wholeheartedly. He had a weakness for foreign women, yet God even used that to direct Samson’s life.

How is God directing your life? Are you growing in obedience?

Memory Verse

“The Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 30:9-10).

Application

Do you feel called by the Lord? Don’t worry about future details. Only ask the Lord to strengthen you in faith and obedience. Don’t feel called? Don’t worry, you can pray that same prayer, then continue to live in faith and obedience.
