We gain momentum in our spiritual lives when we take the Bible to heart. Jesus teaches how to have a receptive heart in the parable of the soils.
Jesus puts more responsibility on the receiver of God’s word more than the giver of God’s word.
Posture towards God’s word matters.
The first thing that can happen when exposed to God’s word is Satan can come at once and take it away. I think this often happens because the way Satan takes it away doesn’t feel evil. Most people hear God’s word on a Sunday and by Monday they’ve forgotten what they’ve heard because they simply moved on to email, social media, sports, kids, or vacations. I actually think Satan doesn’t have to do that much work to get someone in a place where they hear God’s word and it go in one ear and out the other.
In this scenario, it’s not that a person is sinful. and they just need to get their act together. It’s that they just didn’t have a plan for what they were going to do on Monday what they heard on a Sunday.
