Believe! Don’t Doubt
Most non-Christians aren’t looking for a debate, but they are bombarded by a tidal wave of media that goes against the idea of faith. Non-Christians are plagued by questions like ‘How can there be a loving God with so much evil in the world?’ or ‘Doesn’t science explain away Scripture?” Jude 1:22 tells us to be merciful to those who doubt, so as Christians it is our God-given duty to invite non-Christians into conversations about Christ and the Bible in order to help ease their doubts and their struggles. And what better place is there to ask questions than in church with Jesus?
Doubt is part of the human condition. And, believe it or not, we find men and women who struggle with doubt all throughout the pages of Scripture. God didn’t select great scholars to bring us His Word. He chose average people like shepherds, fishermen, tax collectors, and carpenters. Even Abraham-the father of the faith-struggled with doubt. But he faithfully walked with God and preached His blessings though he would never physically see God’s promise fulfilled. The Bible never tries to hide the truth about doubt, but mentions it over and over again. Even our greatest conversationalists-Moses, Abraham, Peter, and Paul-had doubts. God uses our doubts to strengthen our faith. We don’t need all the answers; we just need to begin the journey and bring our wonderings to God.
Understanding is a process. and doubt, in itself, is a conversation in the making with our own Heavenly Father.
“And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘ O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.” Matthew 14:31-32
