Creative Ways to Teach the Lord’s Prayer to your Kids

One way you can teach the Lord’s Prayer to your children is to gather a scrapbook or ring binder, glue, scissors, pictures of all kinds, marker pens and a Bible opened to Matthew 6:9-13.

To make a scrapbook, make an attractive cover. On the top of each page write one phrase of the Lord’s Prayer, so that as you read through the scrapbook, you read through the entire prayer. Stick pictures on each page to illustrate the different phrases of the prayer.

For example: “Our Father who art in heaven” (pictures of fathers and children being loving and happy.) “Hallowed be Thy name” (cut out attractively printed names of God like Healer, Helper, Savior, or print them out on the computer in different fonts and then cut and paste them). “Thy kingdom come” (pictures of heaven). “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (pictures of angels or people helping people, etc.). “Give us this day our daily bread” (pictures of food, clothes, home, etc.). “And forgive us our sins” (pictures of sad faces). As we forgive those who sin against us” (pictures of people hugging each other). “And lead us not into temptation” (pictures of things you find tempting). “But deliver us from evil”(pictures of people being rescued).”For Thine is the kingdom, power and glory” (pictures of heaven, nature, and sky). “Forever and ever, Amen” (picture of person praying or lifting hands in praise).

To teach your children how to memorize the Lord’s prayer, say a phrase for each finger. (There are ten phrases). “Forever and ever, Amen” is the final (eleventh phrase). Have your child raise or clap his hands to conclude the prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer is an essential part of teaching the right view of the real God, and the nature of our walk with Christ. Begin to impart these wonderful principles to your child at an early age.
