Holy Mystery: The Power of Jesus’ Sacrifice
Modalism says God simply wears different hats, which would nullify Jesus’ death on the cross as a payment to God to forgive our sins. Subordinationism or the “pecking order” God is a heresy that states each person of the Trinity is subordinate to the other: God the Father is greater than God the Son, God the Son is greater than God the Holy Spirit. If Jesus was lesser than God, again His sacrifice was not adequate to save us. Finally, polytheism says that God the Father, Son and Spirit are not one God, but three. Who does what? Where is the unified purpose and concert of movement? The Trinity is unique to Christianity, different from all world religions. Because we have a message of a victorious, all-powerful God interacting with us every day, we should become people of great faith and compassion.
